Introduction

Within its priorities the MSI Program considers stretching relationships between the advances in science and technology and their jointly subsequent outreach activities, particularly towards the educational area, the industry and services. MSI for the same thing will develop multiple series of activities were:

Programa Radial "Milenio, en sintonía con la ciencia"

The year 2006 was created of the Radio Program “Millennium in tune with science”, live transmitted every Monday from 7:00 to 8:00 PM by Radio Universidad de Chile (102.5 FM). During more than two years broadcasting this radio conversation space has been conducted by Vicky Quevedo and there have been several scientists for the MSI Centers, National Sciences Awarded Scientists,internationally famous scientists, entrepreneurs, young Chilean researchers and a wide variety of persons linked to contingent and present scientific and technological subjects in Chile at the station.

Millennium Conference

The “Millennium Conferences Cycles” performed at the auditorium of the Fundación Telefónica (Telephone Foundation), free and opened to all public and focused towards announcing the work of the Science Institutes and Nucleus, continued during 2006, 2007 and 2008. Presentations were in charge of researchers from the MSI Centers and each meeting counted with the participation of Secondary and College students, academies, researchers and other interested audience.

Conference Agenda

Lectures Explora-Millennium for schools “Taking Science to your community”

From April to November 2008, 17 lectures were performed by both male and female scientists from the MSI with a simple and attractive language addressed to public school students from different communities of the Metropolitan Region.

Millennium-Explora Regional Conferences

This Cycle of Conferences started on November 2008. They constituted a new stage in work with the objective of taking sciences and technology from North to South of Chile, thus betting on decentralization outreach.This work continued in 2009, adding a total (between the two years) of 15 conferences attended by higher education students, researchers, entrepreneurs, teachers and community.

Journalism and Sciences

With a commitment to promote the dissemination of science, to raise the standard of science journalism in the country and to contribute to scientific tools to project the progress of their research, ICM has organized two meetings of Journalism and Science (2003 Curacaví and 2007 in Villa Alemana) and a Round Table 2006, with extensive assistance from communications professionals, scientists and students of journalism who analyzed and discussed issues related to journalism, science, technology and innovation; disclosure of them, the practices of its participants in Chile and worldwide, as well as the challenges faced by these actors, with the intention to terminate this relationship concrete actions.

Workshop for MSI Young Scientists

An important part of the critical mass that make up the Centers ICM consists of young researchers in training, consisting of undergraduates, doctoral, master's and postdoctoral fellows. That's why in 2004, it organized the First Workshop of Young Scientits of the Millennium Science Initiative, which was held in August of that year Tralca tip. In this successful event was followed by workshops for young scientists made in 2005 in Villa Alemana, 2006 in Punta de Tralca, 2007 in Mantagua Resort and 2008 in The Quisco.

Outreach Activities of the MSI Center

The principles of the Millennium Science Initiative consider the need to construct bridges between the scientific and the private and public environment, the academic and educational media and society in general. To achieve this, the Science Institutes and Nucleus count with an annual specific budget associated to an internal competition annually opened by the MSI to assign these funds.
