The Science Institutes and Nuclei

The Science Institutes and Nuclei

The Science Institutes and Nuclei perform scientific research at similar levels to those performed in developed countries in Natural and Exact Sciences and also in Social Sciences areas, and they are mainly focused towards four action axes: cutting edge scientific and technological research; training of young scientist; collaborative work within networks with other institutions within the region and worldwide, and also outreaching their advances towards environment, particularly to education, industry, services and society al large.

SCIENCE INSTITUTES:

Institutes are centers in which participates in a Director, an Deputy Director, around 10 associated Investigators and a corresponding number of senior investigators, young investigators, graduate or post-doctoral students.

A Millennium Institute has a duration of 10 years subject to evaluation during the fifth year in office, period extendable for a second five-year period subject to the approval of periodic evaluations and completing a comprehensive assessment of the fifth year, and the availability of resources.

Currently there are 5 Institutes, one of which is supported with the Innovation Fund for the Competitiveness (FIC) resources.

Science Institutes:

Millennium Institute on Immunology and Immunotherapy (MIII)

Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience (CINV)

Biomedical Neuroscience Institute (BNI)

Millennium Institute Complex Engineering Systems (ISCI)

Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB)

SCIENCE NUCLEI:

Nuclei are centers in which participates in a Responsible Researcher, a Deputy Responsible Researcher, two or more Associated Investigators and a corresponding number of senior investigators, young investigators, graduate or post-doctoral students.

The Nuclei last three years maximum, at the end of which they can apply for a renewal by an additional, unique period, of other three years, being of concern with other projects, new or of renewal, in an open projects competition.

Currently there are 15 Millennium Nucleus in the area of Natural and Exact Sciences, ten of which are supported with the Innovation Fund for the Competitiveness (FIC) resources, and 9 Millennium Nucleus in the area of Social Sciences.
