Millennium Nucleus in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance – Cardio MR

Impact Area: Health
Speciality: Cardiovascular system

With 17 million deaths annually, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading causes of death in the world. In Chile, the figures reveal that one third of deaths are associated with this type of pathology.

To address this problem, the Millennium Nucleus in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (Cardio MR) brings together a group of scientists from different disciplines to advance the knowledge about the cardiovascular system.

Through the development of magnetic resonance imaging – whose character is non-invasive and free of ionizing radiation – the team aims to obtain quantitative information on blood circulation and the mechanics of the cardiovascular system.

The mission of the Millennium Nucleus in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance is to advance in the knowledge of the physiology of the heart and vessels through non-invasive imaging and mathematical models, providing scientists and doctors with new tools for a better diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
